Active Older People at The Bridewell

We've had a brilliant time with the Active Older People Group. We've tried out loads of new crafts and been on several trips out. Our finale was at The Bridewell, opposite The Royal Hospital, where the group exhbited a selection of their art work.

Thanks to The Peoples Health Trust for all their assistance.

However, it's not the end of the group. They have become self managing, and continues to meet every Wednesday at Fairview Park community centre, off Sherbourne Avenue.
All welcome to attend.

Farewell to The Junior Artists Club

2 March 2015
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Children of ‘The Junior Artists Club’,
Due to circumstances beyond our control we will have to cancel The Junior Artists Club. The Environment Centre is undertaking a refurbishment and in future will be used more for corporate events. Knowsley MBC, who kindly allows us use of the space, has said we can continue using the space after the refurbishment. However there will be much reduced storage space, no office space, and concerns over activities that could be messy.
We have decided then that we have no option but to cease sessions for the time being. If we find space elsewhere, then we may be able to set up again.
I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with the children and running the various events and projects over the years. Watching the children develop interests in the arts, environment, and open spaces of the park, has been a joy and in return I have learnt much from the children.
We have received many well earned awards over the years, both as a group, including the very prestigious Liverpool Echo Keep on Learning Award in 2013; and individual awards, the most recent being only last week when a young artist won 3rd prize in the Knowsley Open Arts Awards. Well done Mollie! All the children can be rightly proud of their achievements.
Our last session will be on Wednesday 25th March.
Before then we have a wonderful exhibition of our Active Older People’s Group, and would like to invite children and parents to accompany us to the event. We will organise a minibus to get us all there. It will be on 18th March at The Bridewell Art Gallery, opposite The Royal Hospital.
The minibus will pick up at 4pm and deliver the group back about 6-6.30pm. I hope you can all make it.
If you wish to record any comments about the club and the children’s work, then you can add them to our blog post at http://halewoodarts.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/junior%20artists%20club.
Best wishes for the future from,

Carole Trenaman and all the Team - both past and present.

Junior Artists Lantern Decorating 8.10.14

HALLOWEEN LANTERN DECORATING

The Junior Artists decorated their lantern frames this week that they made with Becky Bryson last week.

Plenty of sticky tissue paper and glue !

The artists layered the willow frames with white tissue paper and then designed decorations to stick on them out of coloured tissue paper, then put another layer of white tissue paper and hung them up to dry.

Latest from the Active Older People's Group

We are struggling along without our usual leader at present. Best wishes to Sam and  hope you recover soon, we all miss your expert tuition on painting and drawing. Also hugs to his wife Val, keep strong.
This week without you we attempted  snowy landscapes.

Hey Sam, what do you think?

Model Making Demonstration 22.9.14 by Adam

MODEL MAKING DEMONSTRATION BY ADAM

Adam this week gave the Junior Artists a  model making demonstration this week.   He brought along a model he is currently working on at home and explained to everyone how he has made it.

Adam demonstrated how he puts wire inside his models which are called armatures to enable the completed models to have movement which is especially good when the models are being used for animation purposes.

The model Adam demonstrated with is Rocky from the movie "Chicken Run".

Carole then asked the children to design and draw a character of their own.

Below you can see Carole discussing one of the character's that has been drawn/designed.

Hopefully in the near future all the Junior Artists will able to have a go a making model of their own.

Bridewell and METAL

Fantastic if very tiring trip out to two fantastic independent arts organisations on Merseyside.
The Bridewell on Prescot Street, where 25 artists have their workshop spaces and exhibition space
And
METAL, cosying up to Edge Hill train station.

Thanks to People's Health Trust for making the trips possible.

We travelled from the depths of the cells, to the rooftops of the Bridewell. The group had a great time quizzing the artists, exploring the artists spaces, letting everyone know what they liked or disliked about the different art techniques, and generally chatting about everything they found. Well done to George, our tour guide, for coping with all the questions. The history of the The Bridewell was fascinating, including its link to 'Boys from The Blackstuff'.

The group kept Sam and Carole busy with their questions and probing comments about the various types of arts and crafts.

Thanks to The Bridewell and METAL for making us all so welcome and providing copious amounts of tea, coffee, and biccies.
