HALLOWEEN LANTERN DECORATING

The Junior Artists decorated their lantern frames this week that they made with Becky Bryson last week.

Plenty of sticky tissue paper and glue !

The artists layered the willow frames with white tissue paper and then designed decorations to stick on them out of coloured tissue paper, then put another layer of white tissue paper and hung them up to dry.

Junior Artists Halloween Lantern Making with Becky Bryson 1.10.14

LANTERNS WITH BECKY BRYSON

The Junior Artists this week began work on their Halloween Lanterns with the help of Becky Bryson.

The Junior Artists all made a frame similar to this out of willow and over the coming weeks these will be covered in white tissue paper and decorated in the theme of Halloween.

The Halloween lanterns will be covered with tissue paper and decorated next week.

Junior Artists 25.6.14 Paper Mache Models Part 2

The Junior Artists continued this week with their paper mache models, layering paper and some of the artist's began painting their models.  Below a dream catcher being made on the left photo and on the right photo an elephant.

The first layer of paint added to the models, plenty of fun had with the paint deciding what colours to use.

The fun has begun with the paint everybody pouring and mixing paint for their models.

European Week of Waste Reduction

 The Perils of Plastic! - Think Before You Throw!

Wednesday 20th November 3.30pm onwards

Over the past few weeks, The Junior Artists Club have been exploring some of the issues of using plastic. They have seen the awful effects of throwing away plastic objects; and created some posters and objects to help us understand the effects on wildlife.

They have also come up with great ideas on what we can do to re-use plastic and other 'throw-away' items to reduce our consumption.

Finalising spooky Lanterns for tonights walk!

Yesterday was the last day our junior artists and older people had to finish working on their Lanterns ready for tonights parade! Once we put the finishing touches to them including some spooky bats, spider webs, and BOO's we just put a second layer on then passed over to becky for the finishing touches. Putting a little 'cat flap' on so we can light them tonight. 
A few nail biting moments when we thought we would have a couple of unfinished ones but we all got stuck in and done them all!

Together we have about 20 lanterns - and a lot more pumpkins to help guide us through the woods on tonights scary walk!!

Junior Artists Club Re-opens

The Junior Artists Club re-opens for business on

We have some exciting projects coming up including:

Lantern Making for Halloween

Monster Making from Rubbish

Magical Mythical Creatures!!

Last Wednesday we had encouraged the kids to make up their own magical animals that may live in the nearby woodlands, Halewood Triangle Park. We were very lucky to be joined by a young cartoonist who showed their own work and inspired the children to make their own mythical animals. We started by exploring the nearby woods to stimulate their imagination and hopefully see various animals. We saw dragonflies and squirrels also some fish in the pond. Then we returned to the centre where we asked them to draw down their ideas. They came up with their own animals, shown below in the pictures.

Global Warming and Aeroplanes

Last Wednesday, we talked about Global Warming with the children and made origami fortune tellers with questions related to global warming inside. This later resulted in paper plane chasing in the woods.

Only 'Yoking'

 Today the children made some Easter eggs and Easter Baskets.  The eggs were boiled and dyed with 'Natural' colouring agents including, vinegar, red onion, turmeric and 'natural' food colourings.  They stuck a variety of materials to the eggs as a stencil such as stickers, elastic bands, ribbon, lace and lots more.  The end results 'Eggstravigant'.  They also learned in the process which dye worked the best and we also learned the difference between free range and caged hens.

Zoe "I really enjoyed learning the six steps from the Manga Book". 

The children produced some amazing work from the workshop, using the step by step guides.  They then took on there own style by working into the drawings with colour.

Halewood Country Show 2012

We had a great day at yesterday's Halewood Country Show. There was a last minute change of venue due to the Meadow being knee deep in water! We had to hot foot it around to The Arncliffe Park area, which was dry and had a car park.

The sun came out and we were hot hot hot in our marquee.

There was lots to see and do, with the children being really well cared for. Archery, Climbing Wall, Circus Skills, and Lots and lots of creepy crawly animals and snakes to look at and hold!

Our recycling family art workshop went down a storm, and we were last to pack up!

All the flowers and windmills were different with the children adding their own finishing touches.

There was also a really interesting stall showcasing corn dolly making, wish we had time to try making some for ourselves!

The Dog Show was a big crowd pleaser and the Falcons were dramatic. Halewood Community Choir added a musical element to the proceedings.

Thanks to Emma, Karen, and Carole for staffing the Halewood Arts Association stall, and The Rangers for inviting us.

Geometry and Spirals

For the final session before the Summer break Emma and I assisted the Junior Artists Club to create intricate 8 sided figures that can be manipulated. We also made Windmills from an old Veolia calendar, a broken bracelet, some bottle tops, and pieces of eraser. A real bit of recycling.
