Active Older People at The Bridewell

We've had a brilliant time with the Active Older People Group. We've tried out loads of new crafts and been on several trips out. Our finale was at The Bridewell, opposite The Royal Hospital, where the group exhbited a selection of their art work.

Thanks to The Peoples Health Trust for all their assistance.

However, it's not the end of the group. They have become self managing, and continues to meet every Wednesday at Fairview Park community centre, off Sherbourne Avenue.

Drawing and Painting with Sam

The Drawing and painting sessions on a Wednesday have really taken off. The participants are enjoying the sessions and say that it is really relaxing and the time flies. We are quite a mixed bunch, and help each other out, which adds to the positive atmosphere. Contributions of biscuits and cups of tea and coffee make it a very sociable event.

We have Sam from Abaji Art leading on the workshops. He is so patient with us all and has a lovely easy style. Flowers, Swans, and Landscapes are among our efforts.

Basket Making with Cherry

We have had several very lively and interesting sessions with Cherry Chung, who is teaching us how to weave baskets.

I can't wait to see the finished products.

Bird boxes as Art

The Active Older People group

have been working on designs for bird boxes to decorate the open spaces at Sherbourne Avenue. Using some inspiration from different artists including Alex Finlay we have created some interesting results. We have another week to go to finish our artworks. Hope the birds appreciate their upmarket homes!

Next we are trying our hand at Rag Rug making.

European Week of Waste Reduction

 The Perils of Plastic! - Think Before You Throw!

Wednesday 20th November 3.30pm onwards

Over the past few weeks, The Junior Artists Club have been exploring some of the issues of using plastic. They have seen the awful effects of throwing away plastic objects; and created some posters and objects to help us understand the effects on wildlife.

They have also come up with great ideas on what we can do to re-use plastic and other 'throw-away' items to reduce our consumption.

Active Older People - Collage session

The residents of Halewood spent a happy and very focused couple of hours creating mini collages. Even a replacement knee operation couldn't keep one participant away!

Echo Environmental Awards 2013

 What a brilliant time we all had at The Echo Environmental Awards ceremony.

The Junior Artists Club won
 Keep Learning Young Environmental Stars Award.

 The Junior Artists Club was represented by Zoe Hough (artist); her mum Wendy; Carole Trenaman (project co-ordinator); and Jude Cooke (HAA Educational representative).

The ceremony took place at the Isla Gladstone Conservatory. It was a wonderfully atmospheric building and absolutely packed with a wide variety of business delegates, community members, educationalists, and press and media representatives.

Lantern Making

We have had a great time making Lanterns for The Liverpool Lantern Parade and Halewood Spooktacular Parade

The Liverpool Lantern Parade was huge with over 10,000 people joining in the Halloween Fun. We were just a small part of the event, but we all had a great time parading with our lanterns.

Halewood Spooktacular organised by Halewood Community Spirit,was a smaller event with a real community feel. Children and several adults really got involved with the evening and turned out in fantastic costumes. We expected 80 particiapnts, but we estimate there was closer to 200!. What a great turnout.

There was Pumpkin carving at The Environment Centre, before all participants lit their lanterns, pumpkins, and torches and paraded along the Loop Line to the Arncliffe Centre. The Loop Line was decorated with Spooky Bats, Ghosts pointing the way, and an avenue of lights, all adding to the fantastic atmosphere. Once at The Arncliffe the festivities continued with delicious homemade scouse, including a veggie version, (thank you ladies of the Arncliffe Centre); apple bobbing; and a disco. Everyone enjoyed the evening and Halewood Community Spirit are already putting thoughts together for next year. Thanks to all who supported the event including HAA and The Community Police.
