The dragon's Quest

The children of The Junior Artists Club have been exploring and adventuring around Halewood Park Triangle.
Using some classic stories – The Famous Five, Swallows & Amazons, The Secret Seven, and other stories- as their inspiration, they have undertaken a whole range of interesting activities.

This has included;
Deciding on their own ‘gang’ name – The Wiggly Giggly Messy Cats (it took a lot of collaborative work to narrow it down to just 4 words!)
Designing and using their own Secret Language;
Creating artefacts using natural materials;
Making their own natural dyes and paints;
Exploring the park and using what they found there to create a script;
Deciding on characters and creating props;
And finally to come up with Invites for the audience.

Dragon's Quest

The Junior Artists Club are working on script, props, and costumes for their new production.
Inspired by the Dragon's Tooth in Halewood Park, it's beautiful settings and interesting features and animals, the children have scripted their own promenade theatre piece. The children have created the piece in the style of an adventure and devised their own name 'The Wiggly, Giggly, Messy, Cats'; their own secret signs and languages, and emblems. They are busy bringing it all together, with the help of Carole, Beth, Liam, and Fiona, and hope to invite friends and family to their performance later in the month.

Recently HAA ran an Easter Card making workshop. Karen was our facilitator and the results were beautiful and very professional. Everyone was able to create gorgeous cards to take home and learn new skills. Thanks Karen.

There's a worm at the bottom of the garden...

During Summer of last year, we were approached by the National Wildflower Centre to create some exhibition boards for their wormery barn. This project was part funded by Arts Council of England ACE and the National Wildflower Centre.

Here at Halewood Arts Association we like to get the Junior Artists Club involved in as much as possible and wanted to include them in the whole design process. There where to be three exhibition boards, with a different theme for each one, worms, the soil web of life and recycling. We began by running some workshops with the JAC along these themes and asked them to come up with some drawings we could include within the designs. The JAC never fail to dissapoint and came up with some brilliant designs.

Armed with our designs, we spent a week down at the National Wildflower Centre working on the boards there. It was lovely to create the work in the space and have the public give us feedback along the way.

Sophie still has nightmares of Carole repeatedly singing "There is a worm at the bottom of the garden, and his name is wiggly woo" but the final outcome of the boards, makes the nightmares worth while.

Do you like them? If you have visited the National Wildflower Centre, we would love to know what you think.

Arts and Walks in Halewood

If you have ever taken the time to have a wander around Halewood Triangle Park you will know just how beautiful this area of Knowsley is. Earlier this year Halewood Arts Association wanted to publicise this beautiful hidden gem so sought funding from The Big Lottery Fund and Halewood Town Council. We wanted to create an attractive and informative Map showing some of the art works in the park.

The publication also includes snippets of poems and information on the history of Halewood contributed by The Windows Project.

The design, writing and photography, were all undertaken by by Carole Trenaman, of HAA.

Some copies are still available from the HAA Office. If you would like a copy give us an email, call, or leave a comment on the blog or drop into the office.

The Winter Solstice

A very big thank you to all the contributors of "The Winter Solstice". Halewood Community Choir joined us for the first time and added a very special element to the performance. Their harmonies and acapella singing was beautiful and sounded very professional. Thanks to Mark, their choir master, for setting it up. The groups use of lights to illuminate the park at night, produced some magical pictures
A huge thanks to Kate Cotterell for this beautiful picture taken at the event.

Thanks to Becky Bryson for her artistic lanterns and yummy curry, that went down very well.

Thanks to Strange Case Collective also, for the masks they created for the characters.
The Junior Artists Club masks were fab and the 'blessings' they wrote showed a touching insight.

The actors, Ash, Helen, Katrina and Gemma delivered their poems, blessings and words with feeling.

The performance itself wouldn't have been possible without the direction and organisation from the extremely hard working Carole.

We would also like to thank KMBC and Darren the ranger for his assistance, acting and not forgetting the Community Support Officers.

May the blessings of the Solstice bring you an enlightened and fruitful New Year.
