We took our sketch books and added personal touches to make them unique. This included adding recycled, buttons, ribbon, screws, old flowers, and clothes pegs. Working with Carole Trenaman

Upcycling our Sketch books with The Junior Artists Club
Trying out Mixed Media effects
The Junior Artists tried creating different effects using different background materials to complement their subject matter. Then they drew their subjects on acetate and placed them over the background to achieve some depth.

An Ode from a local poet
Oh! To be in April!
You can always tell it's April
By the sound of falling rain
That mystic, mournful music
As it trickles down the drain.
We're told we should be thankful
For the kiss of April showers
As it washes all the grass clean
And prepares the soil for flowers.
There's another side to April
Which doesn't bode us good,
When that mini, manic maelstrom
Turns the lawn to liquid mud.
When mice hide under hedges
And hedgehogs take to ground,
The birds are wet and hungry,
The worms have all been drowned.
Within a week, or maybe two,
A million latent seeds
Will germinate and procreate,
To fill the world with weeds.
Then while I'm fighting anarchy,
Armed with my trusty hoe.
Behind me, surreptitiously,
The grass begins to grow.
I ease my taut and breaking back
And nurse my aching bones.
I think I'll call the builders in
To lay some paving stones.
I'll build a concrete jungle
Where I can sit for hours,
Snug in a concrete garden shed
Secure from April Showers.

Only 'Yoking'
Today the children made some Easter eggs and Easter Baskets. The eggs were boiled and dyed with 'Natural' colouring agents including, vinegar, red onion, turmeric and 'natural' food colourings. They stuck a variety of materials to the eggs as a stencil such as stickers, elastic bands, ribbon, lace and lots more. The end results 'Eggstravigant'. They also learned in the process which dye worked the best and we also learned the difference between free range and caged hens.

Messy Madness
Tonight the kids @halewoodsarts are doing a bit of everything and anything. Tonight is a chill out night were the kids can do whatever they like. The boys have decided to make some quirky aeroplanes and the girls drew some interesting horses and cats. They have decided to experiment with materials and objects and have come up with some great ideas as usual.

Painting on Canvas
Becky Bryson; the talented artist, came to work with the children tonight to produce artwork on canvas. We first practiced on paper drawing faces and animals, and then we transferred the pictures to canvas using black marker and paints. There were some beautiful self portraits, footballers and even dinosaurs!
